Paediatric rehabilitation families return to

Since 2018 we have been helping children with neurological conditions in Kyiv and Hostomel. We don’t work “through tears”: sessions are built on play and the child’s active participation.

The course may be free

A child with a registered disability, up to age 18, can complete a course with us at state expense within the yearly limit.

How to get it

Paid separately: Bobath therapy, Tomatis — neuro-auditory stimulation

Applications go through the social protection office at your place of residence. We will tell you where to start

What we offer

All services and prices
  • Sessions are run by specialists with the relevant education and qualifications
  • Bobath therapy is delivered by a therapist certified by the European NDT Bobath association
  • The rehabilitation plan is set individually by a physical and rehabilitation medicine doctor
  • Selection and fitting of assistive devices, orthoses and aids for daily life
  • Therapy with respect for the child and family, in a comfortable, play-based setting

Some parents, and even some medical staff, believe effective physical therapy can happen despite a child's tears and protest. Our specialists firmly reject that approach: the harm stress does to a child's development is scientifically established.

From the description of physical therapy at our centre

Three steps from the call to sessions

  1. Doctor's consultation

A physical and rehabilitation medicine doctor examines the child, tests with standardised scales and reviews previous assessments. A psychologist's consultation is part of the intake.

  2. Goals and a plan with the parents

We set short-term and long-term goals in the language of everyday life and choose the format: a daily course or a few sessions a week.

  3. Sessions and re-testing

The child works with the specialists and parents learn to carry skills home. After an agreed period we re-test and adjust the plan.

A team that thinks alike
Physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists and educators work under a physical and rehabilitation medicine doctor. Every specialist keeps training and shares experience with colleagues. Our young patients deserve quality care to modern standards, whatever the diagnosis.
How we help
Modern physical therapy is built on the child’s active participation: the child is the key figure in the process. Skills gained in therapy carry over into everyday life, and that is a shared task for specialists and parents. Rehabilitation is a joint team strategy, not a set of procedures in different rooms.
Why parents trust us
Parents get the team’s support and the fullest, most honest information about the child’s condition and outlook, so they can learn to help their child become as independent and happy as possible. We set long-term goals and teach how to prevent complications.
What matters to us
The plan is individual and changes with the child so that sessions stay comfortable and effective. Families come to us on a continuing basis; the atmosphere is homely. What matters more than the diagnosis is the child, a person with their own needs, emotions and wishes.

Who will actually work with your child

Not 'a team of specialists' in the abstract. Named people with their degrees and years of practice. You meet them at the first consultation.

Before you book

  • Which diagnoses do you work with, and from what age?

Children with neurological and orthopaedic conditions: cerebral palsy, psychomotor and speech delay, consequences of prematurity, hemiparesis, genetic syndromes, sensory processing disorders, ASD. Bobath and physical therapy from 3 months, most programmes from 1 year, Tomatis and psychocorrection from 3 years. We see children up to 18. If you are unsure whether we are the right fit, call us: a short conversation with the administrator usually answers it.

  • What happens at the first visit?

The first visit is a consultation with a physical and rehabilitation medicine doctor: clinical examination, testing with standardised scales, and a conversation about the child's history and what worries the family. Together we set short-term and long-term goals and build a plan: a daily course or a few sessions a week. After an agreed period we re-test and adjust the plan.

  • What should we bring?

Medical records: discharge summaries, specialist reports, MRI or EEG results if you have them. A note from the paediatrician or family doctor confirming there are no contraindications and no infectious contacts. If the child uses orthoses, a chair or any assistive device, bring it. Comfortable clothing for movement.

  • Will it hurt? Will my child cry?

We firmly reject therapy 'through tears': the harm stress does to a child's development is well established. Sessions are play-based, with the child taking an active part, and the load is set by how the child is doing that day. Parents can stay in the room for most sessions.

3 more questions
  • How often and for how long do we need to come?

It depends on the goal. Typical formats are an intensive course with daily sessions, or 2–3 sessions a week with breaks. Tomatis runs in blocks of 14 sessions. We set the exact schedule at the consultation and adjust it as the child progresses. Families from other cities can use accommodation in Hostomel.

  • Can parents stay in the room?

Yes, and for most programmes it helps: you see what the therapist does and how, and carry it into everyday life. At certain stages we may ask you to step out for 10–15 minutes so the child builds contact with the specialist on their own. This is always discussed first.

  • Can rehabilitation be free under Decree 309?

Yes. We are a rehabilitation provider under Cabinet Decree 309: the state pays for a course for a child with a registered disability up to age 18, within a yearly limit. The paperwork goes through the social protection office at your place of residence. Bobath therapy, sensory integration, hand therapy and accommodation are not covered and can be paid for separately.
